Question is about optics
knowing the distance from the light source to the lens that causes the best projected image to appear let's call that d0 and the distance from the lens to the screen is d1 given that in terms of those values how would you work out the focal length of a lens.
Would you graph 1/d1 as a function of 1/d0 and focal length will be the inverse of the vertical intercept or Would you graph 1/d1 as a function of 1/d0 and focal length be the inverse of the slope?
and are d1 and d2 the only quantities needed to plot a graph that can be used to calculate the focal length
Explanation / Answer
If we plot 1/do on the y - axis and 1/d1 on the x-axis, then if we assume 1/do = x and 1/d1 = y, then
y = mx - b
y = 1/f - x
where gradient is -1 and intercept is 1/f
if we set y = 0, then x-intercept is 1/f
