A multipurpose transformer has a secondary coil with several points at which a voltage can be extracted, giving outputs of 5.60, 12.0, and 480 V. A. If the maximum input current is 5.00 A, what are the maximum output currents (each used alone)? 5.60 V A 12.0 V A 480 V A INCLUDE A SKETCH OF THE PROBLEM

Explanation / Answer

Given

v2 = 5.60V, 12.0V, and 480V

v1 = 240 V, N1 = 280

N2 = ?

we know that the relation between N,V, I in transformer is

V2/V1 = N2/N1 = I1/I2

N2 = V2*N1/V1

N2 = 5.6*280/240 = 6.533 = 7

given maximum input currentis I1 = 5 A

V2/V1 = I1/I2

5.6/280 = 5 /I2

I2 = 5*280/5.6 A = 250 A

for v2 = 12 V

I2 = 12*280/5.6 A = 600 A

for v2 = 480 V

I2 = 480*280/5.6 A = 24000 A
