Question

9. (15pts) Consider the following circuit. Initially, S2 is open and Si is closed at time t-o 8-48.0 V, R 210.0 ? Si a. If the initial rate of change in current through the resistor is 320. A/sec just after Si is closed, what is the value of the inductor? b. What is the current through the resistor after a long time? After a long time, Si is opened and S2 is closed. For your application in a lab, you need an AC current oscillating at 15.0 Hz. What size capacitor do you need? c. Bonus (5pt): For the circuit above, what is the current in the resistor at 1-1.0 msec (Si closed, S2 open)?

Explanation / Answer

For a voltage splitter the resistors are in series.

The voltage over R2 = R2/(R1+R2) *v

we want V(320) = 5.0 when v = 9.0V and R2 = 320?
so 5/9 = 320/(R1+320)

5/9*(R1 + 320) = 320

so 5/9*R1 = 320*(1 - 5/9)

or R1 = 4/5*320 = 256?
