Can you show the work. I forgot my book and not sure if im doing it right. Thanks 1. Snapdragons demonstrate incomplete dominance in term of flower color. Those with red flowers are homozygous dominant (RR), those with white flowers are homozygous recessive (rr), and those with pink flowers are heterozygous (Rr). Observed phenotypes:8 Red 24 Pink be 68 White Allele Frequencies. Define the allele frequency of R as p and that of r as q and calculate their frequencies. Show your work below and place your final answers in the indicated areas are in this sample? ANSWER: p ANSWER: q =- [Check your answer] Genotypic Frequencies. What are the genotypic frequencies predicted from Hardy-Weinberg? (Show your work.) Proportion pink: Proportion white: Predicted proportion red [Check your answer.] ; observed proportion red:09 [Check your answer. Proportion pink:ILL ; Proportion white: Do the predicted proportions equal the observed genotypic ratios? 2. You are a doctor on a heavily populated but beautiful island in the Adriatic Sea,just off the coast of Turkey. You note that 4% of the children born in your hospital test positive for PKU (phenylketonuria, an autosomal, homozygous recessive disorder). Using Hardy-Weinberg, predict the frequengy of carriers (heterozyotes) of PKU. (Show your work.) ANSWER: Proportion carriersExplanation / Answer
According to hardy weinberg law,
p2 represents the frequency of homozygous dominant genotype RR
q2 represents the frequency of homozygous recessive genotype rr
2pq represents the frequency of heterozygous genotype Rr
sum of allelic frequencies must be p+q=1
thus allelic frequency is the relative frequency of an allele on a genetic locus in a population expressed as percentage.
the above table shows observed value, and it van be analysed that:
p2=8 ; => p=2.82
q2=68 ; =>q=8.24
finally fom the equation p2+2pq+q2 =1 we get
7.84+23.30+67.24
so, allelic frequency of p is 2.8 and that of q is 8.2
predicted proportion of red : 7.84 predicted proportion of pink :23.30 predicted proportion of white :67.24
hence the observed and predicted values of genotypic ratios are approximately similar.
2) Proportion of population with PHENYLKETONUREA positive = 4
Total population = 100
According to hardy weinberg law
(*the first column represents paternal genes and the first row represents maternal genes)
according to hardy weinberg law, p2+2pq+q2=1
q2=4/100
q=2/10
p=8/10 (p+q=1)
carrier frequency = 2pq =2*(2/10)*(8/10) =32/100 =0.32
