Question

1. Describe the purpose of asking the following questions:What quantities can be used as independent variables? How will other quantities depend on each independent variable when all the other independent variables are kept constant?

2. Come up with a specific situation in which the above questions would need to be considered.

3. Farsighted people have trouble producing focused images of close objects but have no trouble
seeing objects far away. What could be one of the reasons for people to develop farsightedness as
they age? Hint: Think about how the eye manages to focus objects at different distances.

Explanation / Answer

Muscles in the ciliary body enable the flexible lens to alter its shape and allow the eye to focus on objects at varying distances.

When you look at a tree far away, for instance, the muscles relax and stretch the zonule ligaments, which in turn pull on the lens, causing it to flatten and assume a thin contour. when we shift our your gaze to something close, such as a computer screen, and the muscles contract and loosen the zonules, which makes the lens thicker and curved more in the middle.

The ability of the lens to focus from far to near is called accommodation. with age, the ability of our muscles to loose or contract is affected. Especially with age, our musles become loose ( also due to lack of eye exercise) which leads to far - sightedness.
