5.+-14 points OSColPhys2016 16.3.WA.026 My Notes A mass is attached to the end of a spring and set into oscillation on a horizontal frictionless surface by releasing it from a stretched position of x = +0.150 m. The mass of the block is m = 0.527 kg, the force constant of the spring is k = 63 3.3 N/m. Determine the following. (a) force component that the spring exerts on the block just before the block is released (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) IN (b) angular frequency w of the resulting oscillatory motion rad/s (c) maximum speed of the oscillating mass m/s (d) magnitude of the maximum acceleration of the oscillating mass m/s2 Additional Materials Reading

Explanation / Answer

Given that

Amplitude = 0.150 m

m = mass of block = 0.527 kg

k = spring constant = 63.3 N/m

Part A

Force by spring on block will be

F = k*x = 63.3*0.150 = 9.495 N

Part B

Angular frequency is gvien by:

w = sqrt (k/m)

w = sqrt (63.3/0.527)

w = 10.96 rad/sec

Part C

Vmax = A*w

Vmax = 0.150*10.96 = 1.644 m/sec

Part D

a_max = A*w^2

a_max = 0.150*10.96^2 = 18.02 m/sec^2
