Question

A mass is on a driver with a spring. The mass of the mass is 2.533kg, the frequency is 1.00Hz, the amplitude is 0.50cm, the spring's displacement goes from 20m to 15m when the mass is placed, and the given spring constant is 300N/m, and gravity (9.80m/s^2) is present as acceleration. Calculate a predicted value for resonant frequency of the mass, ignore damping.

You may use this link for reference, make sure to change the spring constant if you use it: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/resonance/resonance_en.html

Explanation / Answer

for resonant frequency,

m w^2 = k

2.533 w^2 = 300

w = 10.88 rad/s

and f = w / 2pi = 1.732 Hz
