Question
1.explain the orientation of the compass needle 2. explain 2 changes flip polarity causes on magnetic field and magnetic compass. Physies 12 Module 5 Lab: Electromagnetic Induction Data Collection and Analysis: Bar Magnet Select "Bar Magnet" in top left comer. 1. Click on the magnetic compass and move around the bar magnet. Explain the orientation of the compass needle 2. Click on "Flip Polarity" button on right menu Explain two changes this causes in the simulation Magnetic field: Magnetic compassExplanation / Answer
Compass needle points in the direction of magnetic field. Outside the magnet, magnetic field lines move from North pole of the magnet to South pole of the magnet. At the point indicated in the diagram, magnetic field lines are moving towards south of the magnet. Hence, compass needle is pointing along the same direction. If polarity of the magnet is flipped, then direction of magnetic field will reverse. Hence, now, magnetic field lines will now move from left to right direction (from North to South pole of the magnet). Hence, magnetic compass will now point in the opposite direction (compared to (1)) as direction of magnetic field has reversed.
