1) Watch the 15-minute TED talk, link provided on Canvas. Provide a brief paragraph on your thoughts on this particular topic. What was interesting? What did or didn’t you know? 2) At one particular point in her talk she discusses different pesticides that are found in the pollen bees bring back to the hive (like Organophosphates, Neonicotinoids, Insect Growth Regulator, etc.). Investigate & compare the following specific pesticides: Neonicotinoids & Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) (this will require you to look into additional resources). Provide an explanation of how these particular pesticides work to disrupt the normal physiology of an insect, like a bee. In your explanation make sure to compare the two pesticides (for example: how are they similar & how are they different in terms of how they work). Make sure to site your references. (Length of your response should be ~200-500+ words) (7 points)
Explanation / Answer
Bees!! Really awsome and interesting lecture to update your knowlege reagarding bees and how we can create a better future for them.
Bees are the balance maintainers of our Earth.Just by meer pollination a small little insects like bees are holding the whole ecosystem together unknowningly that they are doing a great joan b for the survival of living beings.Humans are destroying their habitat to fulfill economic needs knowingly or unknowingly. But now as we know the drawback of our deeds we can regain wat we loss all these years i.e our precious bees. The two most interesting point in the electure was about artificial pollination and use of propolis as natural antibiotics. The situation is so tremendosly bad that we ourself started pollinating using the same mechanisam artificialy which bees use.I was aware about how artifical pestiside and herbisides are killing bees even elctronic gadgets are destroying the population of bees.I didn't know that monocultures are actualy not helping them survive but erradicating every single flowering plants required for the bees for their nutrition. It would be great to see blooming flowers and humming bees around. Its never too late to start with a good cause"Save our friends next door,Bees!
Pesticide like Neonicotinoids are verry dangerous to the Bees as they can consume it through the nector and pollen they carry along withh them which play a significant roll in fulfilling their nutritional need of protein and carbohydrate. The plants sprayed with Neonix can spread through out all part of plants. When the bee consume such contaminated nector it cause disorientation and sometime death .It pesticide can be transfered to the next generation of the bees which may lead to total wipe out of colony.
Insect growth regulators are used as insectisides which consist of hormones. They don't poison or kill the bees but harm their body metabolism and product of cuticles like fluids. The destroy the population by weakning breeding process and deposit in the body for long period. It is more dangerous than neonix.
