' Pufferfish Mammal /Bird Zebrafish CH - HH B - Nematode Duplication and Divergence Hydra Plants . Origin of Hox cluster Origin of first Homeobox gene Lappin, T. R. J., Grier, D. G., Thompson, A., & Halliday, H. L. (2006). HOX GENES: Seductive science, mysterious mechanisms. Ulster Medical Journal, 75(1), 23-31 The figure above shows the number of Hox gene clusters in different groups of animals 1. What do you notice regarding the number of clusters in each group? 2. What do you notice about the sequence of hox genes in each cluster? 3. What can you say about whether this is a symplesiomorphic or synapomorphic trait?Explanation / Answer
1. The no. of clusters in every group indicates the idea of evolution. The another idea of the evolution is that, the no. of gene cluster increased with respect to time. The existing genes are undergone for duplication and divergence for more and more development.
We can see that, at the starting of this evolution scenario the no. of genes are very less which indicates the complexity of organisms with evolution.
2.
The results of evolutions appears only when we get changes in the nucleotide sequences. As the time duration of evolution increases the frequency of nucleotide differences also increases. This is happened due to various environmental factors. organisms developed varieties in the sequences due to evolution which long and unpredictable process. From very first to very last organism the sequence of the genes are very different.
3. It is synapomorphic trait because characters arises from the ancestral species in a specific manner.
