Question
A science museum has created a huge concave mirror with a focal length of 5 m, and mounted it so that it covers the entire wall at one end of a long catwalk several meters above the floor. If you stand on a center line painted down the middle of the catwalk, you're on the mirror's principal axis. You and a friend are standing on the center line: you're 8 m from the mirror, and your friend is 20 m from it. Can your friend see the image of you created by the mirror? Explain.Notes:
Don't worry about your being in the way of your friend's line of sight. The mirror is really, really big.
It's ok to make a calculation to figure this one out, but don't show the calculation, just cite the results to support your case.
Also can you see the image of yourself the mirror created? explain.
Explanation / Answer
Yes, you will create a real image in the back of the mirror, so your friend would be able to see it.
