Question
A force F is used to hold a block of mass m on an incline as shown. The plane makes an angle (theta) with the horizontal and F is perpendicular to the plane. The coefficient of friction between the plane and the block is (). What is the minimum force, F, necesssary to keep the block at rest? Incline is like so <
This is the answer... F=(mg/)(sin-cos) Would like to see how they get this.. Please explain
Explanation / Answer
since they asked for the minimum amount of force the frictional force also acts on the block and is opposite to the weight component of the block (m*g*sin(theta) ) => u *( mg cos(theta) + F) = m*g*sin(theta) => Fmin. = [ m*g*sin(theta)/u - mg cos(theta) ]
