Shark teeth fossils are mainly found in marine derived exposed sediments or sedimentary rocks. The fossil shark teeth has the following physical characteristics - long, slender, smooth-edged blade small, secondary cusplet on either side of main blade, strongly bilobed root, large lingual protruberance (bulge) and nutrient groove at center of root.

The modern shark teeth has the following characteristics - lower anterior teeth comb-like, each with an elongated base and multiple cusps bases of lower teeth thin and lacy upper teeth spike- or hook-like structure and basses of upper teeth are knob-like.

The cannon bones of camelops are short and of same width entirely, whereas the cannon bones of elk are long and slender distally.
