Question

The amount of protein for BSA was 2850 mg It is possible to estimate the volume of cytoplasm (in mL) contained in 50 grams of muscle from: (A) The total mass of cytosolic protein extracted from the muscle; and assuming (B) This protein represents 20% of total cytoplasm weight; and (C) The density of cytoplasm is 1.2 grams per mL (similar to blood serum). Please calculate and compare the estimated volume of cytoplasm contained in 50 grams of muscle tissue based upon the different total amounts of protein that you calculated using BSA vs. IgG as the reference proteins.men x pe20 , 2 q l

Explanation / Answer

Hi,
BSA: The total weight of BSA = 2850 mg
this is = 20% of total weight
so total weight = (2850)*100 / 20 = 14250 mg = 14.250 g
Density = 1.2 g / ml
Density = mass / volume
Volume = mass / density
V = 14.250 g/ 1.2 g/ml
V = 11.83 ml.

IgG: Total weight = 1500 mg
this is = 20% of total weight
so total weight = (1500)*100 / 20 = 7500 mg = 7.500 g
Density = 1.2 g / ml
Density = mass / volume
Volume = mass / density
V = 7.500 g/ 1.2 g/ml
V = 6.25 ml.
