Question

HELP!

1. The allometric formula for metabolic rate in units of kcal/day is = 70 X M^0.75. (70 times body mass in Kg to the 3/4 power).

Calculate the metabolic rate of a human being of 100 Kg
Now calculate it for a 2.52 Kg feline =  (Approximate as needed.)
Now divide the higher by the lower body mass and then find the corresponding ratio of metabolic rates.
So the human body mass is  (round up) times higher than the feline, but the human metabolic rate is only  (round up) times the feline.
We might conclude that  increases faster than
Now look at the Table 3-3 and state what is different about the metabolic rate of those animals versus the human and cat values you just calculated.

2. Hans Spemann and Hilde Mangold were ______ during the the ________ (type in a number) century - or the prior ______ . They contributed to the early understanding of the process of ________ in embryogenesis.

Explanation / Answer

Q.1 using formula given in question- 70* M^0.75

for human being of 100 kg= 70* 100^0.75=2213.59

for feline of 2.52kg = 70*2.52^0.75= 140

corresponding ratio of metabolic rate= 2213.6/140 =15.81

human body mass is 40 times higher than feline but human metabolic rate is only 16 times the feline.

Q.2 Hans spemann and Hilde mangold were german embryologist during the 19 century-or the prior 1950 .they contributed to the early understanding of the process of gastrulation(spemann organizer in xenopus) in embryogenesis.

note- i did not find table 3-3 so cannot answer.
