The problemes with the vaccum tubes are
1. The computers with vaccum tubes used to occupy a very large space.
2. In the early computers, vaccum tubes were used as switches and they consumed a lot of energy and heat diisipation is more. Becuse of this vaccum tubes ere not reliable.
3.The executable instructions composing a program were embodied in the separate units of ENIAC, which were plugged together to form a route through the machine for the flow of computations. These connections had to be redone for each different problem, together with presetting function tables and switches.
In order to overcome these problmes vaccum tubes were replaced with Transistors.
The three Scientists who were given credit for development of transistor are John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, William Shockely.
The use of transistor improved the following things in the computers
1. The size of the computer was very less.
2. The comsumption of the power has been significantly reduced.
3. As the switching speed of the transistors is more when compared to the vaccum tubes. The computers which were made of transistors operate at high speed.
4. The size of transistors has been reduced as the years pass-on after the discovery in order to improve all the above features.
5. The transistors can survive for a longtime without any damage when compared to vaccumtubes.
