Question
A. Define scalar and vector physical quantities, and provide two examples of each. b. The polar coordinates of a point are r = 6.5 m and theta = 210 degree. What are the Cartesian coordinates of this point? c. Find A + B, |A + B|, and the direction of A + B if A = 5i - 2j and B = -3i - 6 j. d. After a ball rolls off the edge of a horizontal table at time t = 0, its velocity as a function of time t is given by v(t) = 1.3 i - 9.8t j. The balls displacement away from the edge of the table, during the time of 0.4 seconds for which the ball is in flight, is given by integral ^0.4 _0 v(t)dt. Calculate the displacement of the ball.Explanation / Answer
3
a) scaler -quantities which have only magnitude
Example=speed,distance
Vector-quantities which have both magnitude and direction
Example-velocity, force
b) cartesial cordinates are
x=-6.5cos(30)=-5.63
y=-6.5sin(30)=-3.25
c) A+B=2i-8j
Magnitude =sqrt(68)=8.25
Direction=tan-1(8/2)=-75.9 or 284.1 degree from +x
C) taking integral we got
x=1.3t i -4.9t*t j
Putting t=0.4
We got
x=0.52 i-0.784j
So displacement magnitude=0.94
