Question

Problem-1

Compare computer architecture for Intel i7 CPU and any other tablet CPU (multiple-core) based on the following focus:

Clock: frequency and scaling. How it works and why ? Multiple-core architecture: compare and study how it

works.
Low Power control: power shut-off, sleep/hibernate

mode.
GPU: how it works and relationship with CPU.

Hint: you can search base on some major tablet/cell phone ASIC provider such as Qualcomm, Apple, TI, Samsung, Toshiba, ... and so on.

This is the start point of low power design methodology.

As more detail as you search, it will help your project in the

future.

Note: make sure you find out “How it works” not just copy- paste the SPEC !!!!

Problem-

See the block diagram in next slide. The “master” could be processor block with FIFO as out/input buffer. And “slave” could be the share memory that your master can read/write with it.

Design the required signals for the architecture shown in next slide:

Each signal symbol may comprising more than one signals. Please design your own signals name with function and list a table.

Master: specify between master and system bus)Controller:specifybetweenbutterandcontrolles)slave:Specifybetweencontrollerandslave.

Draw the timing diagram for the above interfaces

Explanation / Answer

Based on your requirement, the comparison of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and Intel Core i7 4770K is given below:

Cache memory is a memory bank built into the CPU and it is like a Random Access Memory (RAM) but microprocessor of the CPU can access it much faster than normal RAM. L2 cache memory of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is 2Mb i.e. 50% more than that of Core i7.

On the other hand, as per the clock speeds are concerned, clock speed of core i7 is 3.5 GHz and that of Snapdragon 800 is of 2.3 GHZ. So, in terms of clock speed, Core i7 is much better than Snapdragon 800.

Threads inside a CPU indicates the number of different jobs that a single CPU can handle. Now, Core i7 has 9 different threads where as Snapdragon 800 has 4 threads.

Now, in terms of power consumption, Snapdragon 800 wins the race. The maximum power consumption of it is 4W on the other hand, idle power consumption of Core i7 is of 58 W
