Regarding the two current sources shown above, which of the following s INCORRECT? The current source shown in (b) has increased output resistance compared to circuit in The circuit shown on figure (b) is ca led "cascode current mirror" Referring to the current source Shown in (b), the output current will be more stable w.th respect to changes in the output voltage in comparison to circuit in (a) If we use the current source shown in (b) instead of the one shown in (a), the load circuit being biased, will have increased signal swing. In Circuit (a). If transistors are matched, the output current will exactly be equal to the reference current (we are ignoring the output resistance effects)

Explanation / Answer

the fourth option is incorrect.

1)basically for the basic current mirror fig (a) when both the transistors are matched than the output current will be equal to the reference current so option 5 is correct.

2)Because of channel length modulation effect in fig (a) VDS1 != VDS2 so to make the voltages equal there is cascode current mirror which is as shown in fig(b) . So option 2 is also correct .

3)fig(b) i.e. cascode current mirror has increased output resistance which is a advantage of it over basic current mirror fig(a) as for cascode current mirror is approx given as gmr02 .So option 1 is correct .

4)In option 3 the statement is correct as the effect of channel length modulation is supressed in fig (b) so the output current will be more stable as compared to fig (a).
