Question
I was hoping if someone can review my letter to appeal academic dissmissal. I transfered to a UC last Fall and was having tough time adjusting to new life. Because of that i ended up reciving bad grades last quarter. I can appeal my dismissal by submitting a personal statement of 500-1500 words. attached it the first draft of the personal statement. I was hoping if someone can help me review gramatical or spelling errors as well as some ways I can make the statement better and convicing.

Subject: Request for Appeal of Dismissal
To whom it may concern,
This morning, I received an email regarding my current academic status and it noted that I am subject to dismissal from the UC XXXX due to my poor grades in last two quarters. I am writing to request an appeal the decision and explain the cause of my poor grades thus far.
Over the course of last two quarters, my grades were affected by my part time work and bad studying habits. When I first arrived at UC XXXX, I thought that getting an undergraduate degree was going to be breeze as I did very well in my community college without much effort. Because of that, I decided to help my uncle in his shop on the weekends to earn some money, and help my parents with my educational cost. I was also lacking motivation to study as I felt out of place in a new environment and wanted to make new friends. I spent most of my time trying to socialize with my peers and left all my school work for last minute. When I received my grades for the fall quarter, I was very disappointed in myself. I got a D in one of my classes and I had to repeat that class in the winter semester. I was doing quite well during the winter quarter, until towards the end of the quarter I ended up sick with the seasonal flu. I ended up missing last couple of week of lectures which resulted in me missing a quiz for my EEC 110A class and performing very poorly in my finals. I was devastated when I found out that I had failed two of my classes. I realized that university wasn't as easy as I thought it would be and I have to commit to study in order to get better grade.
I realize that nobody is to blame for my poor grades in last two quarters and I did not try my best to overcome my bad studying habits. I have decided to repeat EEC 110A, in which I got D in winter quarter. I have also decided to take a GE course during this quarter to help improve my GPA. I have also talked to my parents about my current situation and decided to quit my part time job to focus on my academics. I have also scheduled an appointment with my advisor to make changes to my academic plan and talk about potential summer classes that I can take to improve my GPA. I am also planning to attend Student Academic Success Center workshops to improve my study skills. I have also created a calendar which will help me keep on track with my classes and improve my studying habits. Nothing is more important to me than my education, so henceforth I am going to make my schoolwork the top priority.
I am certain that if you give me a chance to prove myself, not only I will pass all my classes, but also be in a good standing academically by the end of this quarter. Thank you for taking time to consider my request.
Sincerely,
