Question
Machine Overview. Please answer the following questions. a. For a wound field DC Machine: i. Name the two winding types ii. Identify which type of winding is used to control torque iii. Of the winding types, which is wound on the stator? iv. Of the winding types, which is wound on the rotor? b. What is the displacement angle between the MMFs produced by the two windings identified in (a) that results in maximum torque per ampere and what is the physical mechanism used to accomplish this? c. Are MMFs for the DC machine rotating or stationary? d. The general expression for torque in an induction machine is T = -K middot I sin (delta_r). For an induction motor, it can be shown that delta_r = -(90 degree + empty_2) where cos (empty_2) is the power factor looking into the rotor circuit to the right of the magnetizing branch voltage Em (see the circuit below). Assume that the controls to the induction motor can "effectively" change what the circuit parameters are (yes this is possible). Since the slip has to be non-zero to produce torque what would X_2 have to be changed to in order to ensure maximum torque per ampere?Explanation / Answer
1),. a)
i). Two types of windings are Armature winding and Field winding.
ii). Armature winding is used to control the torque.
iii). Field winding is wound on the stator.
iv). Armature winding is wound on the rotor.
