Question
"When a pipe line has a roughness height (e) of 0.00249 and pipeline diameter is 0.30m. It connects two huge water tanks. One tank's surface elevation is 100m and another is located at 115m. Pipes are attached in a form of square edged entrance and exit. Calculate the flow rate. (kinematic viscosity(v) was given)"
This is the problem I coudn't solve.
To figure out the flowrate, I must know the velocity in pipe V.
However, because the pipe length was not given, I couldn't figure out this problem.
Is there a way to solve this problem without knowing the pipe length?
Explanation / Answer
simple
apply bernouli's therorm you get V=?(2g(h2-h1)) =?(2g(115-100)=17.32 m/s
pipes are attached in a form of square edge then each side of squre(L) = 2r
Area = L2
= 4r² = 4(0.15)² = 0.09 m2
flow rate = AV = 0.09(17.32) =1.55 m3/s
