Manufacturing Questions (help)
1. In soldering process, what are the advantages of not melting the base materials?
2. Sand casting molds are made of two or more pieces. Explain the major reason
3. Which welding processes do not use flux
4. Some casting processes do not use patterns. List these casting processes.
5. Some casting processes do not use cores. List these casting processes.
6. In arc welding, what are the functions of a stick?
7. To join two pieces of thermoset plastics, can you use arc welding? Explain the reasons.
Explanation / Answer
(1) since we are not melting the base metal, welding can be done with a low-temperature heat source and this reduces the distortion and the heat affected zone. since we are not damaging the base metal we can reuse the part by removing the soldering(the soldering can be removed by heating the joint)
(2).If we use a single part then the solidification defects will be formed due to the non-uniform solidification this will results the formation of cracks and hot tears this will reduce the strength of the component.also, the component will become anisotropic.
(3).friction welding, explosive welding, TIG and MIG welding, resistance welding etc.
(4).Centrifugal casting, CO2 moulding, Die casting etc.
(5).Centrifugal casting
(6).Stick will act as a filler material, and it acts as one of the electrodes and by coating the stick with the flux it can shield the welding.
(7).we cannot use arc welding to weld two thermoplastics because for arc welding to be done workpiece must conduct electricity.
