Question
Please answer all
1) How does the local convection heat transfer coefficient vary with distance from the leading edge for laminar flow over a flat plate? For turbulent flow? For flow in which transition to turbulence occurs on the plate
2) What role is played by the critical Reynolds number for fluid flowing over a flat plate?
3) What are the manifestations of boundary layer separation from the surface of a circular cylinder in cross flow? How is separation influenced by whether the upstream flow is laminar or turbulent?
4) What are the characteristics of hydro dynamically fully-developed flow?
5) What is the difference between an isothermal surface and a constant heat flux surface? How do they affect convection heat transfer?
6) For fluid flow through a tube with a uniform surface heat flux, how does the mean temperature of the fluid vary with distance from the tube entrance in (a) the entrance region and (b) the fully developed region
7) For a uniform surface heat flux, how does the surface temperature vary with distance in the entrance and fully developed regions?
Explanation / Answer
2) For fluid flowing over a flat plate, there is a transition that occurs from laminar to turbulent flow. This occurs when the critical reynolds number becomes 5×105. And hence the boundary layer transitions from laminar to turbulent. Also the flow on flat plate is defined by the reynolds number. The flow becomes turbulent at a critical distance having a critical reynolds number.
