56 uestion Completion Status: QUESTION Imagine you are doing a summer internship as a research assistant at Sevilleta Research Station in the desert in New Mexico During your internship you observe two distinct species of beetle in the area. They have similar body shapes and they both seem to like to land on cacti. But their color patterns are different: one is bright green and one is dark green You further observe that theur habitat ranges overlap, but are dstinct in that the dark green beetle prefers small, darker cacti while the bright green beetle prefers larger. lighter-colored cacti. Both species are camouflaged well in their respective habitats You have seen both species preyed upon by lizards. Finally, the population size of the two species is about equal. Based on the information given, was the evolution of these two species of beetle more likely due to natural selection or genetic drift? Write an answer in which you concisely define both mechanisms, state which evolutionary mechonism is more likely and logically explain why TTT Arial 3(12pt) T.:-.- anExplanation / Answer
According to the given data, there is two types of beetles in a given area ,one is bright green and second is dark green in colour. They are preferring different habitat as the dark green beetle on the small, darker cacti and the bright green prefer large, light colour cacti. Both of them are preyed upon by lizard, but still there population remains same.It means that nature favour their habit and habitat selection, based on different phenotype ,natural selection is the basis of evolution of two beetles.Genetic drift is the phenomenon in which there is constantly change in population and the there is change in gene pool of an population in respect to environmental condition .But,in case of beetle ,there is the natural selection occurring in them which is main driving force for their survival and evolutionary history.
