The video above, from the series "How It's Made", details how pasta dies are made by an artisan pasta producer in Italy.

In at least 300 words, answer the following questions:

How could additive manufacturing be used to improve the efficiency of the process by which the pasta dies are fabricated and assembled?

Which parts of the process could be augmented by AM, and which, if any, could be produced directly using AM?

Why would these options be attractive?

Reflect on the production value propositions discussed in this week's course material. Recommend specific uses of AM along the workflow shown in the video, and describe which AM processes you would choose to implement those improvements.

Explanation / Answer

A pasta die is usually made of a metal alloy which has an input setion and an output section that are concentrically arranged in extrusion direction and are joined in transversal cross section. A process of making of die of pasta comprises of forming at least one dough extrusion process. The process further comprises of forming a step and taper in the output section. The die must be able to stand up under long continued use and maintain its proper dimensions under such extended use.The shape of the extrussion passage can be convergent constant or divergent. The holder is generally of brass or brozone .So addittive manufecturing can be used to make dies and including the extrusion process.Holder can be directly made by the addittive manufecturing. These methods are attractive becuse of good precisions and much of the work are prograamed and done by computers.
