Question
Sorry that my teacher didnt give any number values but hopefully I can get some help or equations I can look at to solve each step of the problem.
There is m1 on a slope of THETA with a pulley to m2 hanging off the right. The pulley and string are massless.
On test he is giving the following to solve...
1) static friction (us)
2) kinetic friction (uk)
3) m1
4) m2
He wants us to find the following...
a) what direction will the blocks travel and why?
b) what is the acceleration (a) ?
c)how fast is block 2 (m2) moving when it hits the ground?
d) How far does m1 travel?
e) what is the Tension (T) after m1 falls back down?
f) how long does it take for m1 to return to the taut position?
any help is appreciated. Let me know if you need clarification. THANKYOU
Explanation / Answer
at first calculate the whether static friction will act or kinetic friction will act means whether mgsin(theta) is greater than or less than us*mgcos(theta) if or uk*(mg*cos(theta) then according to that draw a free body diagram then taking ur axis in the direction of slope solve write the net force equation that is m2g-m1gsinthetathete - uk*mg =(m1+m2)*a solve this
