When the two cars are separated by 175 m, the driver of car 2 applies the brakes and begins to decelerate at a rate of 4.50 m/s2. (a) How long does it take for the two cars to pass each other? (b) How far has car 2 traveled with its brakes on before the two cars pass each other? (c) At what speed is car 2 traveling when it passes car 1?Explanation / Answer
let the time taken be ts.so,
30*t+2-t-0.5*4.5t^2=175
or t=4.35 s
b)distance covered by car2=20t-0.5*4.5t^2
=74.57 m
c)speed of car 2=20-4.5-4.35
=0.425 m/s
