Question
Okay, I'm beating my head on the desk on this one. Searching Chegg's data base and yahoo's found nothing either, as far as how to get started.
Light of wavelength 400 nm is incident at an angle of 45 degrees on acrylic and is refracted as it passes into the material. What wavelength of light incident on fuzed quartz at an angle of 45 degrees would be refracted at exactly this same angle. The answer is 245 nm.
my first thought was to use lamda n = lambda/n but it doesn't account for theta.
I considered sin theta2 = n1/n2 theta1 but it doesn't take a changing wavelength into account. I have no idea what else to do on this. thanks for the help! Also Chegg won't let me purchase more points (I tried setting it at 1500. As soon as they set it up, I'll up that for questions.
Explanation / Answer
frequency of the light will remain contant in any medium
hence (C1/lembda 1) = C2/lembda 2)
C = velocity of light / refractive index
put the values of refractive index to get the solution
