Question text

Your circulating blood glucose levels are often at their lowest when you first wake-up in the morning. What HORMONE would be released to RAISE your BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS and what GLAND would the hormone be released from? Fill in the blanks with correct hormone and gland.

Select one:

a. Thyroxine, Parathyroid

b. Insulin, Pancreas

c. Antidiuretic hormone, Pituitary

d. Thyroxine, Thyroid

e. Glucagon, Pancreas

Explanation / Answer

1) C- endocrine system is a system which controls different physiological phenomena of an animal by secreting chemical molecule called hormone from endocrine glands(ductless) which further coordinates all the body functions.

2) D

All are endocrine disruptures. Birth control pill deals with the hormonal control ( sex hormone) of human body which inturn affects the normal hormonal surge. Other products also interfares with the normal endocrine system resulting in endocrine interruption.

3. B

PTH secreted from parathyroid gland acts on kidney to increase the renal calcium reabsorption. So, calcium level increases.

4) E

Liver has no endocrine function that is it does not secrete any hormone. Other glands secrete different hormones like

Thyroid - T3, T4

Pancreas - insulin, glucagon

Testes - Testosterone

Ovary - estrogen.

5) E

Pancreas secretes two diffect hormone which are associated with blood glucose level. Insulin and glucagon. Insuling lowers the blood glucose level. Whereas glucagon does the reverse that is it elevates the blood sugar level. So when the body glucose level is low we need to maintain a higher level. So release of glucagon is necessary in that case.
