Question

Choose 3 of problems 2 -5. Please work each problem on a separate page. #5 may be worked on the test paper. For full, credit, sketch the problem or draw the circuit diagram, show equations in symbolic form, then substitute values and units. Express answer with the proper number of significant digits. State any assumptions that you make. Find the currents I1, I2, I3 as labeled, the voltage drop and the power consumed by the 10 ohm resistor in the circuit below. (Assume that the internal resistance, r, for each power supply is 0.5 ohm and that all given values are correct to 2 significant digits.)

Explanation / Answer

12 = (5+0.5)*I1 + 6 + (10+0.5)*I2

=> 6 = 5.5*I1 + 10.5*I2

Again,

12 = (5+0.5)*I1 + (3+0.5)*I3 + 8

=> 4 = 5.5*I1 + 3.5*I3

Also.

I1 = I2 + I3

Solving above equations,

I1 = 36/65 = 0.55 A

I2 = 128/455 = 0.28 A

I3 = 124/455 = 0.27 A
