Question
In this problem you will estimate the lifetime of electromagnetic energy at a rate given by P = -2kq^2a^2/3c^3, where a is acceleration. Assuminmg that the electron is one Bohr radius (0.0529 nm) from the center of the hydrogen atom. Show that P has units of energy per unit time and determine the rate of energy loss.
I posted a. of this also which I need to solve to show the units. But I don't have a clue (from our book) how to make this show rate of energy loss? Thanks! The answer is -2.90 eV/s
Explanation / Answer
By DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS, we can clealy see that it has dimension ML^2T^-3 which is same as energy/time => it has units of energy /time
