Question

Your task is to find some physics, somewhere, in life. It could be something you saw, heard or wondered how or if that were possible, something in the news, in print, on TV, radio, or the web. It could also be something you experienced. Briefly, give some detail of the situation, where you were or where you saw or heard about it, what made it interesting, what physics might be involved. etc. Feel free to include a link to the article or site or video clip, if you happend to find something on the web.

For example: I was watching a cartoon yesterday with my kids and I wondered if we'll ever have a real NASCAR track that does a loop-the-loop like in the cartoon, and if at 200mph they really could make it. I wonder if it would depend on the weight of the car? Centripetal force must be important, somehow.

Explanation / Answer

One day, I walked into my ktichen and saw a scary display of faint sparking along the wall in the darkness. Later I realised it was my cat. I aasked a teacher in school aboutit and she laughed and said it was static charge on the fur coat of the animal that discharged into the wall!
