Question
Read the following abstract
""Parkinson’s disease is becoming a healthcare crisis as the number of people over the age of 60 is growing rapidly. In this presentation, I will talk about the two most promising drug targets for Parkinson’s disease namely alpha-synuclein and LRRK2. Alpha-synuclein was traditionally known as a natively unfolded protein. I will present evidence supporting its existence as a folded protein and how this changed our approach to potential therapeutic strategies. LRRK2 is a large multi-domain dual-enzymatic protein whose kinase activity is being targeted for potential therapeutics. I will present our use of X-ray crystallography to guide an alternative strategy for modulating LRRK activity for potential therapeutic purposes."
Write an in depth question (do not answer it) to the author of this abstract concerning the subject matter.
Question must be open ended
Explanation / Answer
The following questions could be asked from the abstract -
1. How does folded alpha-synuclein affect the onset of alzheimers' in elderly population? What are the downstream effects of this protein in native v/s unfolded state?
2. What kind of therapeutics mechanisms can be expected if one were to target LRRK2?
3. What percentage of the population show corelation between the target proteins and Alzheimer's disease? Is targetting these proteins a technically viable option? What are the alternatives to these targets that currently exist?
4. Will targetting these proteins reverse Alzheimers? What about quality of life?
