Question

Solve the problem below, really unclear on how to complete this so please show as much work as possible.

The gravitational acceleration of bodies dropped near the Moon's surface is about 1.6 m/s2. Find the time for an object dropped from rest to fall 3.0m on the Moon. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. Find the time for an object dropped from rest to fall 3.0m on Earth. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Explanation / Answer

A)

s=ut+1/2at^2

a=1.6 m/s^2, s= 3 m

so,

3 = 0 + 1/2*1.6*t^2

so,

t = sqrt(3/(1/2*1.6)) =1.9365 sec

B)

s=ut+1/2at^2

a=9.81 m/s^2 , s=3 m

so,

3 = 0 + 1/2*9.81*t^2

so,

t = sqrt(3/(1/2*9.81)) =0.782 sec
