Question
I figured i need to find time first. I'm just not sure how to do that. Please do not just show me the math, put some words mixed with the math, I am trying to understand it.
A ball rolls off a table and falls 0.80m to the floor, landing with a speed of 4.4 m/s
What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the ball just before it strikes the ground?
What was the initial speed of the ball?
What initial speed must the ball have if it is to land with a speed of 5.1m/s ?
m/sWhat initial speed must the ball have if it is to
Explanation / Answer
acceleration for free falling bodies is always = g = 9.8 m/s2
v^2 = u^2 + 2aS
a will be -9.8 because it is acting downward
S = 0.8 m
4.4^2 = u^2 - 2*9.8*0.80
hence
initial speed = u = 5.92 m/s
if v = 5.1
using same formula above u = 6.46 m/s
