Question
In the figure, three long parallel lines of charge, with the relative linear charge densities shown, extend perpendicular to the page in both directions. Sketch some electric field lines; also sketch the cross sections in the plane of the figure of some equipotential surfaces. The linear charge density ? = 3.90 times 10-4 C/ m. The distance between the lower lines is 28 cm and the upper line is 34 cm above the plane connecting the lower lines. What is the vertical component of the electric field along the line equidistant between the lower lines? (V/m) ****i got 6.07x10^7 N/C but that was not correct. If some could help me out that would be awsome.Explanation / Answer
E = [1/ 4 pi epsilon] [ 2 lambda / r^2]
= (9 * 10^9) (2 * 3.90 * 10-4 / (34 * 10-2))
= 6.07 * 10^7 N/C
= 59 V/m
