Question

I ONLY HAVE TEN MINUTES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

The electron will hit the UPPER plate

How far horizontally from the left edge will the electron strike?
________ cm

Please use my numbers!! I understand how to find it with lower plate but do not know how to change it for upper. Detailed explaination please!! No points for copy and paste from the same question with different numbers, sorry. I really need help with the numbers I have.

USE MY NUMBERS PLEASE :/

In the figure below, a uniform, upward electric field of magnitude 2.00 times 103 N/C has been set up between two horizontal plates by charging the lower plate positively and the upper plate negatively. The plates have length L = 11 cm and separation d = 1.8 cm. An electron is then shot between the plates from the left edge of the lower plate.

Explanation / Answer

F = ma =qE
a   = 1.6 x 10-19 x 2 x 10^3 / 9.109 x 10-31
       = 3.513 x 10^14 m/s2    ..............downwards
at max. height vertical component of velocity is zero.
so using v^2 - u^2 =2ad
0 - (6.05 x 10^6 x sin48)^2 = 2 x -3.513 x 10^14 x d
d = 0.0287 = 2.87 cm   > 1.8 cm
so it will hit .
now for time taken to reach 1.8 cm far plate .
using h = ut + at^2 /2
0.018 = (6.05 x 10^6 x sin48) x t    - (3.513/2   x 10^14 ) t^2
solving this quadratic equation ,
t = 2.064 x 10-8 sec

Range = vcos48 x t
      = 6.05 x 10^6 x cos48 x 2.064 x 10-8    = 0.08456 m
or 8.456 cm
