Question
HI, can someone check and see if I've got these true and false question right? 1. The work done by a variable force in moving an object between two points is equal to the area under the force versus displacement curve between those two points. TRUE 2. If the net work W is done on an object is positive, the object's kinetic energy increases by an amount W. TRUE 3.If the net work W is done on an object is negative, the object's kinetic energy increases by an amount W. FALSE 4. Problems involving a non-conservative force cannot be solved because there is no definable potential energy. TRUEExplanation / Answer
You have done a great job, I must say.
In 2nd and 3rd questions, the total energy increases by W, not necessarily the kinetic energy alone. So false (both 2nd and 3rd)
But there is a trickery in 4rd question.
It says problems involving non conservative forces could not be solved because there is no defined potential energy. How is this true?
Friction is a non conservative force, but we still solved tons of problems involving friction. So my answer is false. If you are not convinced, please see the definition of non conservative force.it says work done in a loop is not zero. That doesnt mean that we could not find the work done.
So T F F F it is, for me.
Happy understanding. Please rate me high.
