Question

If my answers are incorrect, please show as much detail as possible and explain fully. A man is trying to pull a trailer up a hill by attaching a rope to it from his pickup truck. His truck is parked on level ground at the top of the slope. On the trailer sits a box weighing 140kg. The box is not tied and is held on the trailer by friction alone.

Ideal rope, no air drag.

Known factors.

Box = 140 kg

Trailer = 400 kg

Truck = 2100 kg

Angle of slope = 15 degrees

Coeff. of Static Friction, Box on Trailer = 0.30

Coeff. of Kinetic Friction, Slope on Trailer = 0.07

Coeff. of Static Friction, Road on Truck = 0.50

1) Draw a free body diagram for the trailer.    I have Fg, Fn from ground up, Ffrict up slope, Ffrict down slope, Ft from rope, Fn from box down.

2) What is the maximum tension that the man can give to the rope and get his box up the slope?  I am getting 107 N ?

Explanation / Answer

This question looks confusing, without the diagram.
Can u please post the figure
