Question

An apple truck is coasting along a horizontal road. The truck has perfect tires, so that it rolls at a constant speed with the engine in neutral. No force from the road is needed to keep the truck going at its constant speed.

It is an open truck, loaded with apples, and with an apple thief. The apple thief stands on top the apples in the back of the truck and drops them over the side, as gently as he can. (He doesn't want to damage the apples he is stealing.) Later he will collect the apples from the road.

Since the mass of the truck is decreasing, and since no external horizontal force is acting. Momentum conservation would seem to require that the truck speed up. Does the truck speed up? Answer this question and explain your answer in a single clear coherent paragraph.

Explanation / Answer

As mentioned in the above answer, He doesnot throw the apple , he drops it that means he is dropping it at v=0 .

so the speed increases
