Question
0.5 points Question 10o Imagine you want to get rich by genetically engineering tobacco plants to produce acai berry juice. To do so, you insert the genes for each of the enzymes in the hypothetical acai synthesis pathway, the first step of which is conversion of glucose to fructose. The challenge is that if you allow glucose to be depleted it will kill the plant because it can no longer make ATP. For the reaction what is the best way to ensure that glucose can be used to produce acai berry juice, but only when glucose is. at.or above tration so that it is continuously available for catabolism and production of ATP E1 E2 E4 E5 Glucose Fructose12 13Acai berry juice Competitive inhibition of enzyme E1 by Fructose Allosteric inhibition of enzyme E1 by Acal berry juice Allosteric activation of enzyme E1 by Glucose Allosteric inhibition of enzyme E1 by GlucoseExplanation / Answer
Ans. It should be competitive inhibition of E1 by fructose. When the concentration of glucose is low Enzyme E1 will bind to the fructose which is produced when glucose is converted to factors by E1 and hence reaction will not proceed further. But when glucose concentration is high glucose will compete with Fructose for the enzyme E1 and occupy the active site and reaction will be completed. Therefore reaction will only occur when concentration of glucose is high.
