Question

Which of the following statements are correct? (All of the statements concern real objects. Give ALL correct answers, i.e., C. AE. DEF. etc.) A convex mirror never forms a real image of a real object. A concave mirror always forms an enlarged real image of a real object. When an object is placed between a concave mirror and its focal point, the image is virtual. The virtual image formed by a convex mirror is always enlarged. A concave mirror always forms a virtual image of a real object. The image produced by a convex mirror is always closer to the mirror than it would be in a plane mirror for the same object distance. A virtual image formed by a concave mirror is always enlarged.

Explanation / Answer

Concave mirror can produce both real and virtual image depends upon the object position. As the object distance approaches one focal length, the image distance and image size approaches infinity. When the object distance is equal to exactly the focal length, there is no image. Then altering the object distance to values less than one focal length produces images that are upright, virtual and located on the opposite side of the mirror.

Convex mirror always produce a virtual upright and dimnished image. For a convex mirror, as the object distance is decreased from the mirror, the image distance is decreased and the image size is increased.
