Question

Use Lenz? Law to predict whether current will flow through the wire of the loop in the following case.Explain your reasoning.

(a) Just after the switch has been closed

Here's where I'm confused. If the current in the solenoid is flowing to the right, this means that the magnetic field (B) must be pointing out of the page. But there is no way that the induced magnetic field of the loop (to the left of the solenoid) can be out of the page.

Please explain B, B induced, I and I induced.

Explanation / Answer

current --> towards left. B --> Into the page. Induced current ---> counterclockwise B induced ------> right.
