Question

From the top of a cliff, a person uses a slingshot to fire a pebble straight downward, which is the negative direction. The initial speed of the pebble is 8.10 m/s. (a) What is the acceleration (magnitude and direction) of the pebble during the downward motion? (b) After 0.808 s, how far beneath the cliff top is the pebble?

For (a), I know it is "-9.8 m/s^2"

I keep messing up part (b). I am using the equation x=v0t+1/2at^2, but I'm not sure whether the "a" stays negative or positive. I'm stuck between two answers: 9.744m or 3.425m

Explanation / Answer

9.744 its positive
