Question
Two small plastic balls hang from threads of negligible mass. Each ball has a mass of 0.140 and a charge of magnitude . The balls are attracted to each other, and the threads attached to the balls make an angle of 20.0 with the vertical, as shown in the figure.(Figure 1) same picture as here http://www.chegg.com/homework-help/questions-and-answers/small-plastic-balls-hang-threads-negligible-mass-eachball-mass-014-g-chargeof-magnitude-q--q254221Part A
Find the magnitude of the electric force acting on each ball in (N.)
Part B
Find the tension in each of the threads in (N.)
Part C
Find the magnitude of the charge on the balls in (nC.)
Explanation / Answer
As u didn't gave m in grams or kg
so i took m in kg
Fe = Fg = mg tan = (0.140)(9.81)(tan 20) = 0.499
b) T cos = mg
==> T = mg/cos = (0.140)(9.81)/cos 20 = 1.46
c) r = 0.0205 m
Fe = mg tan = kq^2/r^2
==> 0.499 = 9x10^9 x q^2 /(4.2025 x 10^-4)
==> q = 1.526 x 10-7 C
