Question

3. This question will test your understanding of electron flow in photosynthesis. kaht reactions of photosynthesis (name the Noncyclic electron flow occurs during the appropriate one of the two stages of photosynthesis). (2 points) a. Could noncyclic electron flow occur in a chloroplast with nonfunctional P680? What about cyclic electron flow? Explain your answers. (4 points) b. There are 3 different events that contribute to the formation of an electrochemical (H+ ion) gradient in NONcyclic electron flow. Describe them! (6 points) c. Now, describe how CYCLIC electron flow differs in how the electrochemical gradient is formed. (3 points)

Explanation / Answer

a-Noncyclic electron transportoccurs during the electron transport chain reaction of photosynthesis in the presence of light.

b- if p680 is nonfunctional in chloroplast the non cyclic electron flow could not occur in the photosynthesis rection. The P680 molecule is lack of two electrons , water is split and give electrons to P680 and the 1/2 oxygen combine with another 1/2 oxygen which form O2.

But in case of cyclic electron flow, which use photosystem I i.e. P700 but not photosystem II i.e.P680. in this process NADP and OXYGEN not produce but it does make ATP

c-

d-d- Cyclic electron transport is a light?energetic flow of electrons by a photosynthetic reaction Centre with the electron return to the reaction center through electron transport pathway. It normally produce an electrochemical potential gradient across membrane but does not result in making of reductant. The pH gradient generated may initiative the production of adenosine triphosphate or ATP by cyclic photophosphorylation or regulate photosynthesis
