Question
A 1,080-kg car is pulling a 295-kg trailer. Together, the car and trailer have an acceleration of 2.20 m/s2 in the positive x-direction. Neglecting frictional forces on the trailer, determine the following. (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer. Take the forward direction to be positive. Assume the trailer's weight is entirely supported by it's own tires.)(a) the net force on the car
N
(b) the net force on the trailer
N
(c) the force exerted by the trailer on the car
N
(d) the resultant force exerted by the car on the road
magnitude
N
direction
A=2376
B=649
C=-649
Dmag=10847.4
Direction=?degrees
I plugged in 77.35 and it was wrong. So I subtracted it from 360 cause it says below the horizontal from the rearward direction but that was wrong too. Please help!
Explanation / Answer
(a) Net force = mass* acceleration = 1080*2.2 = 2376 N , +ve x-direction (b) F = 295*2.2 = 649 N, +ve x-direction (c) Trailer exerts a reaction equal and opposite to force on trailer F = 649N, -ve x-direction (d) 10847.4 , angle is 180+77.35 = 257.35 degrees anti-clockwise from positive x-axis
