Question
The geometry of a structure before the 580 N force is applied is shown, where member ABC is horizontal and springAD is unstretched. The pulley at C is frictionless. Determine the vertical displacement d of point A , the forces supported by cable BCD and the spring, and the reaction between the rollerA and the wall to the right of it, due to the 580 N force. Assumed is small enough so that the geometry of the displaced structure is essentially the same as the geometry before loads arc applied. T = N Fs = N Ax = N d = mmExplanation / Answer
This can be solved by considering the equilibrium of the bar ABC. We can first draw the free body diagram and balance all the forces acting at it's center of mass(Translational equilibrium) After that we will apply all the forces that are acting at the specific point and balance all the torque acting on it.(Rotational Equilibrium) In this case it's better to conserve the torque at point A as there are many forces acting on it. Other choices can also be taken if it reduces the no. of variables and consequently number of equation.
