Question

The rectangular object in the figure below consists of four masses connected by light rods. What power must be applied to this object to accelerate it from rest to an angular speed of3.27rad/s in5.2s for the following cases.

(a) the object is rotated about thex-axis W (b) the object is rotated about they-axis W (c) the object is rotated about thez-axis (which is through the origin and perpendicular to the page) W The rectangular object in the figure below consists of four masses connected by light rods. What power must be applied to this object to accelerate it from rest to an angular speed of3.27rad/s in5.2s for the following cases.

Explanation / Answer

power=1/2*I^2t

a)I1=.5*m1^2l^2 (   moment inertia of single body about axis at l distance)

about x axis

I=I1+I2 (I1 ,I2 are MI of masses 3,4 respectively)

I=.5*3*3.27^2*.5^2 +.5*4*3.27^2*.5^2

==>4+5.34==9.346 (moment inertia of system)

power=.5*9.346*3.27*3.27*5.2=259.84

do same for others axis

after finding individual MI ,,,,add up all and get system MI

and then put in power equation...
